Freestyle is in Blender! Starting with version 2.67, Blender ships with Freestyle. Get Blender and give it a try. Congratulations to Tamito Kajiyama for pushing the integration to the finish line, it's been an incredible work. You can see the work that was accomplished and the latest Freestyle/Blender updates here: Congratulations as well to Maxime Curioni who made the integration possible at all, solving some incredibly difficult problems (against many common beliefs, the fact that Freestyle and Blender were both using Python didn't make the integration easier, on the contrary). Finally, a big thanks to the Blender artists community who has been supporting the project from the start and especially the early adventurous adopters of Freestyle. A lot of work remains to be done to get Freestyle to a fully production-ready state. We are hopeful that having Freestyle in Blender's mainline will encourage more developers to get involved. We will keep the standalone version of Freestyle available here, but we encourage artists to use the Blender version.

Freestyle is a software for Non-Photorealistic Line Drawing rendering from 3D scenes. It is designed as a programmable interface to allow maximum control over the style of the final drawing: the user "programs" how the silhouettes and other feature lines from the 3D model should be turned into stylized strokes using a set of programmable operators dedicated to style description. This programmable approach, inspired by the shading languages available in photorealistic renderers such as Pixar's RenderMan, overcomes the limitations of integrated software with access to a limited number of parameters and permits the design of an infinite variety of rich and complex styles. The system currently focuses on pure line drawing as a first step. The style description language is Python augmented with our set of operators.
